Classic TV/Made for TV movies

Post up your links and memories to the golden age of tv and shite films that never made it at the cinema but you loved.
I'd probably draw the line at about 1989. Love to see links or even just memories of watching 60s 70s and 80s US cop/PI tv series such as Quincy MD, Eddie Capra Mysteries, Petrocelli etc.

I watched Meantime again not so long ago, it still stands up, but like many Mike Leigh films it's pretty grim.
Secrets and Lies was an incredible film.

As a teen mostly, I loved the British historical war stuff we would get sometimes.
Sharpes Rifles etc.
And Hornblower (but that might have been a bit later)

Was it Play for Today that had a series of "Talking Heads"?
I recall being very impressed by a Warren Mitchell monologue talking in angst to the camera on the trials of being an aging Jewish grandfather. Really got no idea of it's title though.

Sunday night viewing used to be To the Manor born, follows by Roots, then Shoestring.

I never saw that Sherlock Holmes/Ripper series. I'll check it out.

This thread has reminded me of Edge of Darkness. The one with Bob Peck and Joanne Whalley not the Mel Gibson film effort! Absolutely brilliant series. Also was reminded of the 1988 Sherlock Holmes/Jack The Ripper mini series with Michael Caine and Lewis Collins which was really good. My shelves are full of all these retro series on DVD because watching them as a deaf kid with no headphones or subtitles, DVD gave me a new lease of life and I could understand them finally. I remember trying a new hearing aid whislt watching Starsky & Hutch once and asking dad what the strange buzzing noise was and he pointed out it was the radiator!! DVD best invention ever!

I recently binge watched the 1970s post pandemic civilisation collapse series Survivors. I'd recommend that as long as you can get past watching Rodney's father in law having hair, a beard and talking in a Welsh accent.

I was a Jonathan Creek fan, too. All these things tend to go wrong once they give the main character a girlfriend/wife.

Probably a bit modern for this thread but when I was a kid I used to love Jonathan Creek. It got really bad when they did it in the 00's and beyond but I remember loving the first episodes around 1997/8.

Meantime is very good, Gary Oldman at his best.
Well worth a watch, Mike Leigh made some great stuff, Bleak Moments is good as well, his first film and for the BBC as well.
